Oklahoma Flood!...Search and Rescue

What a day it was in Oklahoma yesterday!.. Some areas reporting up to 9 inches of rainfall in 12 hours. I was making my way over to a local town and got stopped by the Sheriff at the edge of the water. He let me shoot the flooded highway for the local news station. He came over to me after hearing some radio chatter and asked me if I would look for a body in a flooded field. I got him to get me an escort around the restricted area and to the flooded field (roads were closed everywhere).. Got to the location, and got in the air. I found the truck, got down low to see if I could see anyone in there..empty... I ran down several tree lines to see if i could find him.. a few minutes later, BAM!.. found him. He ended up about 1/4 of a mile away from his truck. Not the prettiest footage, but then again, it was a Search mission.Just glad he was ok.

Nicely done!! Good on you for doing that. This reinforces to the local authorities that we're not all yahoos! I've stopped by my local police and fire, where I live, to drop of a business card and offer my services any time they need.

Just another day as an operator!.. I'm always glad to help, especially if a life is involved. This was my first "find", and it was pretty exciting.

So let's flip the script, you're washed away from your vehicle clinging to leaves for your safety not knowing whether your next step will drop you into a hole or you end up being swept away, from that perspective dry ground could be yards in any direction but so could deeper water. Would you be happy seeing that drone knowing assistance was soon following?

Im just glad it wasn't a "body"... there were a few lives lost during this weather event. People just need to be aware that flood waters are dangerous, and should not be taken lightly. As they say here at the weather station "Turn around, Don't Drown!"
