A simple After Effects work flow

Possibly, but I have never had much luck with PP/AE dynamic link. I often get communication failures, hangs, etc.

It worked perfectly for me! I used ProRes 4444 and it created a great quality video from my raw images. 3GB+ for 35sec though :D

Try exporting directly from AE to media encoder via the Composition menu, instead of loading the .aep file inside Media Encoder.

From my experience, when I import CinemaDNG directly in premiere, it works (with proxies to make responsive) but the quality is nowhere near what I get/see in after affect with Camera RAW.

Is that just me?

Camera Raw is meant for photos and isn't concerned with speed, so it does raw processing with higher quality than Premiere. You can try Resolve which has more raw processing options than Premiere, and it is also better optimized for raw work.

Ok, I've been using this for a while and I sometimes get a tiny bit of flickering in my videos. I've read that contrast shouldn't be used in CR but I'm wondering if Clarity could introduce flickering too as it may apply differently to each image?

does it make sense? Am I talking rubbish?

Any image adaptive setting in Camera Raw may introduce flickering, including clarity. As mentioned above, CR isn't designed for video work.
