Zoom wheel and R-buttons not functional while in IR mode

While in IR mode, the Zoom wheel and R2 & R3 buttones on the controller won't zoom in the IR camera. It seems the only way is to tap the small "2X" icon on the right side of the display whin in IR mode to cycle through the different zoom levels of the IR camera. The zoom wheel and R-buttons work fine with the Wide angle view, just not the IR view.

Is this normal? The manual isn't exactly clear.
