X5s on Inspire 2 vs P4P for still photography

I'd like to get the best drone for still photography of cityscapes during sunset. This requires two things:

(1) The ability to hold the camera pretty still (ideally 1-2 sec)

(2) Good high ISO performance since blue hour may not have too much light.



Given these two trade-offs, would the Inspire 2 (+ X5S camera) or the P4P be the best? I'm not really interested in video at this point.

Yes, I believe it has a m4/3 sensor compared to 1' sensor in the P4P. But the difference isn't that much, and I was wondering if other factors (e.g. tech in the sensor, better stabilization) would allow the P4P to come up top.

How long can the Inspire 2 hold the camera stable for? 1sec exposure?

You also need to consider the lens choice the P4P offers a fixed 24mm lens where as the X5S lets you change lenses and you could go a little wider with the Olympus 9-18, or same with the Olympus 12mm prime, then lots of choice moving to narrower with Olympus 17, 25, 45mm primes. However, the cost certainly starts to add up if you don't already have any of those...

I’ve looked into this further.

The 12mm f/2.0 lens has a 1 stop brighter aperture (2.0 vs 2.8 on the P4P).

In addition, the X5S camera is 93% larger (225mm2 vs 116mm2). I don’t know the tech behind each sensor, but let’s just call it a 1 stop advance as well.

So taken together, the X5S on an Inspire 2 has a 2 stop advantage. The only thing that remains is looking at shutter speeds.

On the P4P, I’ve seen relatively sharp pictures at 1sec. Definitely 0.5 sec is sharp. So if the Inspire can’t consistently get 1/8 sec exposures to be tack sharp, it’d seem to loose out to the P4P.


So… what’s the slowest you’ve been able to go with the shutter speed?

I've been trying to rationalize an Inspire 2 if anything.... But I wouldn't be so concern except people told me that their pictures on the Inspire 2 come out soft at longer (e.g. Longer tha 1/10s) shutter speeds due to the difficulties of stabilizing a larger camera setup

I was in your same position , I went for the i2 with x5s due to the interchangeable lenses, larger sensor, 4K+ RAW video and more robust platform overall. The ability to rotate the camera without moving the craft and the stability of the i2 is amazing. So far super happy.

the most i usually go up to is 2 seconds, not sure i've actually tried any longer.

secondly many posters are asking for sample of a still photo taken with inspire 2 ,but it looks there isn't one yet (at least I haven't see one yet).
It reminds the "Big Foot " story, everyone is talking about it ,but nobody have seen it yet.

a larger sensor is going to be more sensitive to light, no? there are tons of sample files from an i2 on the site. If you can't find them, I've attached a 40MB RAW file taken this evening with X5S / Olympus 17mm untouched straight from the camera.

taken with the X5S / Olympus 45mm, untouched from camera, was still in the air from sunset, still had a polarizer on the lens...... 400 ISO / RAW, came out a bit darker than expected due to the polarized filter. hope it helps. if you have any more questions feel free
