I wondering how works the ADS-B approaching of an aircraft warning , untill now I haven't received any yet

Its only ADS-B "IN" and gives you aircraft location on the map. The color of the airplane icon is relative to your proximity based on location and altitude data.

Yes I know that, then why don't I see the approach messages of a relatively low and nearby commercial aircraft?
Would the drone have to be higher to receive them?

DJI Air Sense uses an antenna on the aircraft to receive ADS-B from aircraft that are transmitting them.

Maybe you are not seeing the alerts because:

• The aircraft are not transmitting them
• They aircraft are too far away
• Your Air Sense antenna is blocked from the aircraft that are transmitting because of obstacles (Manmade, natural)

Maybe open a support case if you feel your Air Sense is not working correctly?

I wonder if it's dependent on more than just simple proximity?

I haven't see any alerts either, and there have certainly been cases where I'm reasonably sure I'd be able to pick up ADS-B.

There may be more to it than proximity, but I have yet to read an official DJI explanation.

Mine goes off all of the time since at work I operate near a tourism helicopter often. I even got the Collision warning, that scared me the first time it ever popped up.
Sometimes with planes directly over me but high up, I get no alert.

Also if this makes sense, my older Mavic 2 Enterprise Advance seems to alert me more often on aircraft much further away, so it is possible that different drones may have different versions?

Totally plausible it's evolved as more compute power becomes available. I've never seen any direct explanation either, but their description of it alludes to some sort of smarts ...

this feature gathers flight data sent automatically from nearby aircraft with ADS-B transmitters, analyzing it to detect potential collision risks and alert users well in advance through the DJI mobile app.
