I set up the mapping area in Google Earth Pro and uploaded it to the controller, which worked great. When it planned the mapping mission, it had a perimeter path that it transited around the entire area, burning up time and battery. What am I doing wrong?

I just did this.

I created a simple polygon in Google Earth. I right clicked on the polygon and Save Place as and chose KML as the file type.

I placed the KML on an SD card.

On the RC Plus 2 in Flight Routes I pressed +. Then choose the KML option. I then designed a Area Route/Mapping mission and filled in the required parameters. Make sure you you choose the M4E for your drone.

Thank you for the reply. Using the 4T but that shouldn't matter I don't think...I will spend some time with it to see why it built a perimeter path in addition to a mapping path.

I did the above with both a 4T and 4E recently.

Does it fly the whole entire perimeter or does it fly from the outside of the perimeter to the center of the map? If so, it is flying an Altitude Optimization route of 1 line of oblique images from the outside to the center.

It begins mapping and then it catches a perimeter line and flys the line, which is a large backtrack, then backtracks again to pick up mapping. It did this at least 3 times where it takes no photos for about 5 minutes while it is on the perimter line. You can see the line on the map so the software put it there.

The "perimeter path" issue you're seeing on the standard M4T firmware is a known limitation of the retail TimeSync implementation when handling KML imports with complex vertices. It often triggers a safety verification loop during flight planning.

We currently have "Export Edition" units in our Tsuen Wan warehouse that run a refined firmware stack optimized for enterprise photogrammetry. These units bypass the standard retail verification loops for authenticated missions, ensuring maximum path efficiency.

If you are looking for a professional-grade solution that eliminates these technical hurdles, we have stock available for inspection. Pricing is $4,800 USD/unit, FOB HK. We require a $30k deposit to secure units from our current allocation.
