Has anyone used the DJI Dongle 2 with their Matrice 4 series?

I am located in the US and we have not and will not get the Dongle 2 for LTE/5G ability to fly our drones.

But, with the older Enterprise drones you could use the DJI Dongle (1) with a sim card to get internet connectivity for your drone. I found this easier than having to rely on a hotspot from your phone or having to remember to charge and bring a Wifi router.

Has anyone in the US tried this? If so, did it work?

I had this working on an M30T, but after a firmware update it never worked again. When it did work it made everything easier in terms of live streaming, connection and upload to Flight Hub 2 and basically made the drone easier to work with.

I have not but aside from my Lidar sensor accessory I would like to get a dongle setup up for an extra layer of protection for loss of connection scenarios...welcome any feedback

How does the Obstacle Avoidance Lidar Sensor perform?

So far, aside from it highlights wires and gives a real time distance to them, nothing of substance to report. Which at the end of the day is what we're all after.

Would it avoid another moving drone effectively?...I don't know but it sure couldn't hurt. It alerted me to a crane jib 390' in the air, which I obviously saw but it was reassuring that it was functioning.

I'd say its good for about 10 heart bpm less in obstacle laden areas :)

Thanks! I'm trying to get one but they are hard to cone by right now.

I ordered a Dongle 2. I will report back on how it works.

From what I have read on Reddit and Facebook it will not work for enhanced transmission in the United States.

But it may work with giving the controller internet. I use my phone's for now or I bring a Wifi router puck, but it would be nice just to turn on the controller and have internet. One less thing to worry about.

For what it is worth, NoLimitDronez.com is claiming their FCC Patch for Smart Controllers enables 4G Dongle use worldwide for enhanced transmission, but purchasers have not been able to get it to work in the U.S.. Also, the RID supposed suppression capability with the same patch doesn't work in the U.S. either. So they are either a complete scam, or they think they have real solutions, but are just terrible at implementing them in their programming, which is clearly still buggy!

Thanks for the link.

I do not think Dongle 2 will work, even just for internet connectivity, but I'll try.
Dongle (Original) used to work for connectivity on the Matrice 300, but after firmware updates it stopped.

It's not a big deal, but I would just rather have the controller have full internet without having to rely on anything else.

I got the Dongle 2 and ran some tests.

It both works and doesn't work.

Just to make it clear, in the US, you CANNOT use the Dongle 2 for enhanced transmission where 5G/LTE serves as a backup controller to drone solution.
The test is not testing that, it is testing whether you can use the Dongle 2 with installed sim card to receive internet connectivity to the controller only. This could be used to receive corrections, live stream, load maps and more.

I used a First Net sim card with unlimited everything.

  • It does work in terms of I can get internet connectivity using Mobile Data setting turned on.
  • I could browse the internet and download files
  • It checked for firmware and found that itself, the Dongle 2 needed a firmware update
  • It did not have good speed in speed tests completed on 3 different speed test sites (8 to 20 mbps download and 5 to 15 mbps upload)
  • At times it seemed like the 5G/LTE on the controller was flashing as if turning on and off (This is what happened on a Matrice 300 RTK with the non-DJI dongle it used).

It did not work as follows

  • It could not consistently stay connected to DJI Flight Hub 2 (Connection Error)
  • It could at no time use Flight Hub 2 for live streaming, a stream was never able to be produced

I tested it out of the box first, then updated the Dongle 2 firmware.
It performed the same in both instances.

I do not think I would trust it for receiving corrections/RTK since it seems like it is going in and out of connectivity.

I'm using the Dongle 2 on the RC plus 2. For me (NL europe) it's working fine. Insta RTK, internet browsing, google drive, Litchi Hub etc ..
Although DJI recommends not using IoT sim cards, I am using it. Personally I did not found any problem but than again, I'm not using it for the Enhanced transmission.
