I am using a Matrice 4E drone for a 1,500 acres mapping project. Included in the project area is a 500+ ft tall structure. Drones cannot be flown over the structure or within a 250 ft radius of the structure. I am planning to shoot a number orbits around the structure at different AGL elevations (say every 100ft). This data will be processed along with other aerial data to create a 2D Ortho, DSM, DTM, and 3D Model. If you have experience with using orbital missions to model a tall structure, I would like to better understand any best practices. Same radius, different radius', camera settings, etc.?. Thanks, Mike

Is this structure a tower? And if so is it an open, lattice tower? If so, these towers are extremely hard to model correctly. I just did on and was very close (Within 6 meters) and it came out with a tremendous amount of noise.
I used Agisoft to create a custom flight plan, but also tried Pilot 2's geometric flight plan. Each came out with an extremely noisy point cloud. The obj model was garbage and the 3D tiled model came out very thin, missing a lot of the thinner elements of the structure.

If is is lattice, get in very close, have good lighting and you might want to have the camera angled down so as to not capture any of the sky at all.

Examples of my problems.

Thinned out tiled model. Missing large amounts of the thinner items such as ladders.
