AI People counting is a work in progress

I got a chance to attempt to count people for a small special event.
Now it is called people counting and not crowd counting and it is pretty good coutning people when they have a separation between them. If really struggles and fails at crowds though.

Thing to note:

• On screen will not have the correct number of people indicators. The counter in the upper right will have a greater number than the onscreen markers and you get a warning stating this.
• When AI is turned on, when you take a picture and then view it in gallery, you can have more markers on the people (up to 1000)
• It struggles in dense groups of people
• You can either choose to upload the images to Flight Hub 2 during the mission in the setting on the controller or if you forget or do not have internet, you can upload the images at a later time.

Hello, this topic is very interesting and I have not been able to test it with a group of people yet. At what height was the drone? And how long did it take to count all those people?

I took various images. I forget these two examples buy from 150 to 250 ft AGL.

The counting is instant and changes on your live view FPV view.
You can take an image and view it in the gallery and it will also show a count.
FInally you can upload the images to Flight Hub 2 either instantly (Set the option in Pilot 2 to upload) or at a later time.

Does this only work with FlightHub integration/subscription?

I do not use flight hub and when I take photos with AI turned for people and/or cars, I do not see any results like this.

You must:

1. Have AI turned on
2. View the image in Playback/Gallery
3. View the image in Flight Hub 2 (Signup and use it. Most features are free. You will get 6 months of free Live stream and Clouod Mapping/Modeling)

Is it possible to add your own ai models so it can count other things besides cars, boats, or people? Livestock for example, would be handy if it can become reliable

I got u need to download the dev kit and sign up as developer, and got a bit lost with where the guy was downloading his things from. Do you need to photograph the thing you want to add yourself or is there like some database of existing things you can download? Say if i wanted to count cows for example

My guess is that you will have to supply the images for whatever use case you are trying to train the model for.

I was hoping you could get the drone to fly around the subject and make its own 3d model

So the gist of it is you have to do the training locally with a patched version of GitHub - open-mmlab/mmyolo: OpenMMLab YOLO series toolbox and benchmark. Implemented RTMDet, RTMDet-Rotated,YOLOv5, YOLOv6, YOLOv7, YOLOv8,YOLOX, PPYOLOE, etc. using the YOLOv8 model. Then you send the data to DJI, sounds like they do some hand massaging and make it available.

They recommend training on 500-1000 images.

Just the creator.

That brings up an interesting point though. It would be neat if you could choose to share your models with select accounts, or the public. I can see practical applications like SAR.

That's interesting. I thought it would go onto a shared database or something.. Do you think making models is something doable by the average person, or would you need a higher level of i.t skill to accomplish these? Computer stuff can be a bit intimidating for me, but can get through basic things with instruction. For example, I will be googling what Github is right after this.
*edit i googled github and pretty much learned it might be above my level of ability
