If the camera droops when powered off then the gimbal will be constantly having to drive to keep the camera in the correct position. This will dramatically affect the life of the unit.

explain then why the X3 has suffered far fewer breaks than the X5 with a far larger % in use. Is it only X5 owners who are heavy handed?. Read the thread regarding materials being used.

theres a difference between crashing and a heavier than normal landing. Lots of these gimbals have been reported as being damaged with zero contact, just slightly higher G forces on landing. Obviously, falling out of the sky from 200 ft is going to hurt, but a heavy landing?

there's lots of complaints about the X5 gimbal being too weak. Check the X5 thread. Keep me posted as I had a damaged gimbal which DJI at first refused to repair only offering to sell me a replacement. After a lot of arguing they finally did repair for 340 euros, rather than the 2,099 euros...

yep Howard, I understand your annoyance. I only realised the balance issue when, everytime I shut the battery off, the camera swung vertical. Then it dawned on me that the motors might be driving too hard.

I used a small lead strip, shaped to fit inside the camera hood, with a self tapper through from the outside. You can just make it out in the pic.

Surprise Surprise !! received an e mail from DJI asking me to return the X5 as they would now repair at cost ! Repair ended up at 360 euros, just a tad less than the original 2094 euros quoted. Unit is now perfect, thanks DJI

update is that after someone in the US was quoted for major inspire repairs, including the X3 gimbal and camera, I went back to DJI who have now asked for the X5 to be returned to them for repair at cost......... let's see what the next couple of weeks bring

dji will NOT repair gimbal and cameras, worst of all is they wont even try......

I took a gamble and bought the X5 off ebay as spares or repair after the guy sent pics showing no obvious damage to the camera, roll or pitch assemblies. I contacted dji in Europe, explained the damage, sent pictures and after they forwarded the delivery address, I had it couriered to them...

well, DJI strike again. An X5, back for assessment and repair due to a broken pan gimbal arm, has just been quoted at 2094 Euros. Equivalent to £1500, this is £100 dearer than a brand new unit minus lens. Is this a record ? I've asked for a full report explaining just how they have arrived at...
