Finally filming in 5k, is AE my only option for post?

Hi Jeb, That is the same experience the other FCP users were reporting. Now that Resolve has this working very well with Native Cinema DNG files I would imagine we will see the competition do better in future releases. What is your end use for the 5.2K footage? If that is not critical, I can...

Finally filming in 5k, is AE my only option for post?

Hi AMG, Possibly someone with FCP and X5S Cinema DNG files can check this but my understanding is that it will not manage RAW yet without a manufacturer plugin or conversion to ProRes. There are numerous threads suggesting that that is the case. Premiere will open Cinema DNG files as well but...

Finally filming in 5k, is AE my only option for post?

Hi AMG, How is the RAW editing experience? Last I had read this was a named feature but was not working yet: Blackmagic Forum • View topic - The new Final Cut pro X 10.3 support BMD CDNG!!!

Finally filming in 5k, is AE my only option for post?

Hi AMG, Will FCP work with unconverted RAW files? Will it export 5K? Thanks

Finally filming in 5k, is AE my only option for post?

Hi Jeb, DJI has not made it clear what the "LOG" option even does when shooting Cinema DNG (RAW). As above, RAW and LOG are very different beasts. I haven't played with that setting at all. Limiting RAW to ISO 500? I would suggest against that. By DJI's own info: Dynamic Range: SNR 18%...

Finally filming in 5k, is AE my only option for post?

Hi Jeb, This is an older link but it might be helpful. Formats Explained - HD Video Pro LOG Gamma is very different from RAW (Cinema DNG in our case). Your highest quality footage will be in Cinema DNG (no LOG setting) and will be cleanest and maintain the largest dynamic range at the lowest...

Hi Jeb, May I ask why?

Finally filming in 5k, is AE my only option for post?

Hi Jeb, I am shooting RAW, so no LOG. I assume you are shooting ProRes?

Finally filming in 5k, is AE my only option for post?

Hi Jeb, The Free version Resolve works very well for 5K RAW footage. If you need 5K output you will need to upgrade to the paid version but if your intention is to deliver in 4K you will want to open an Ultra HD timeline and edit away. I have switched to working with RAW only (almost always...

X5 4K, 2.7K video is choppy (double frame)

Hi PJ, Your Smart TV may have motion interpolation turned on (many do by default). Here is a link: What is the 'Soap Opera Effect'? Could you post up (or link to) a video of your problem footage?

X5 4K, 2.7K video is choppy (double frame)

Hi Donnie, For sure avoiding judder requires a lot of attention. This is an issue with Progressive video and film. Frame rate, shutter angle (shutter speed), focal length, subject distance, etc. are all factors. At 24 FPS however, the 7 second rule will still judder in many instances and...

X5 4K, 2.7K video is choppy (double frame)

Hi Bruno, Looking at your sample video I am seeing what would be expected from your pan speed(s). You slow your pan as you proceed in 3 fairly distinct steps. The jutter is very coarse up to 5 seconds, still coarse (but less so) from 5 seconds to 9 seconds and quite smooth for the very short...

X5 4K, 2.7K video is choppy (double frame)

Hi Bruno, Two things to consider. An object in your sample video above is horizontally crossing your frame in about 3 seconds. That is a very fast pan for progressive at 30 FPS and will always create judder. This link may be helpful: Panning Best Practices. The second thing I am noticing...

X5 4K, 2.7K video is choppy (double frame)

Hi Bruno, My first thought was that the pans may be too fast for your shooting frame rate. But that would not explain the duplicate frame. In your NLE, dropping a 30 fps clip into a 60 fps timeline would manufacture the extra frames (or speed up the clip speed depending on your settings)...
