Getting DJI no fly zones unlocked

Everyone should just calm down. The Green Warning Zones only generate a Warning, and can be dismissed. That's not much different than the warning a car GPS gives. The Green Enhanced Warning Zones and the Yellow Authorization zones can be dismissed almost as easily. If you have a cell service...

Certified Canadian UAV Pilot Looking to Operate in the US.

As RMartin points out, both the aircraft and you need to be legit. If you are doing commercial ops then you will need the 107 license. There is no shortcut that I am aware of for foreign pilots. In fact, after you pass the test you still have to get TSA to give thumbs up. This is an...

Getting DJI no fly zones unlocked

The No Fly Map asks for your drone model, so it is possible that a Mavic will have different zones than an Inspire. I don't see a difference on the current maps, however. More likely (just a guess here) you have recently updated the firmware on the Inspire, but not on the Mavic.

Getting DJI no fly zones unlocked

Simon, Sorry to bother but you are now my GOTO expert on this. If I just want to fly in a Yellow or Enhanced Warning (Green) zone do I need to go through the above steps? Do you have a link to a page where this is all explained so I don't have to bother you in the future? Bob

Thank you, Simon. What is a PFCO? Bob

    X4s (mechanical) v X5s (electronic)

I doubt that the mechanical vs. electronic shutter makes any difference at all for mapping. Why not call the folks at Maps Made Easy and ask them? They have been able to see what camera results in the best maps. The X4S camera seems identical (in specs and form factor) to the camera on the...

    X5 Compatible Lens Excel Spreadsheet

Yes, that would be a problem. I am experimenting with small balance weights (see photo) that are used to balance tires. This one is 5 grams (on Amazon $9 Amazon.com: uxcell® 5 x Adhesive Car Truck Tire Wheel Balancing Weights Strips 2.1 oz 60g: Automotive), with double stick tape backing. For...

    X5 Compatible Lens Excel Spreadsheet

I created the attached PDF for all of the lenses I could determine which should work on the X5 on the Inspire 1. It is actually an Excel Spreadsheet, but the board doesn't handle xlsx file uploads. Send me an email at [email protected] if you would like an Excel file. Those lenses confirmed...

X5 HF prime lenses vs Zoom lens for Inspections

YRMD. I don't use ND filters for aerial still work. For aerial video on the X5 I use B+W filters. A little bit cheaper than the Formatt Hitech ones, but every bit a first class filter. For aerial video on the X3 I use the DJI ND filter that came with the kit. For my Phantom 4 Pro I got a...

X5 HF prime lenses vs Zoom lens for Inspections

There are three important characteristics of ND filters that you should consider: (1) glass type, (2) anti-reflection coatings, and (3) color neutrality. I use NDs extensively in my ground photo work, primarily to get water effects. All brands are not created equal; you only get the quality of...

X5 HF prime lenses vs Zoom lens for Inspections

In addition to the trial and error approach (which is the final authority) you can get a kitchen scale that reads in grams. What is surprising is that a high quality polarizing filter (for example) which has not been made specifically for drone use can be quite heavy (say 20 grams). In the...

X5 HF prime lenses vs Zoom lens for Inspections

I thank the folks who posted photos, but I want to add something into the mix. If you can get close to the structure just about any camera/lens combination will get the job done. To do that (get close) the most important addition I have made is a second operator. That allows me (the pilot) to...

    DJI XT Thermal Mapping programs

Maps Made Easy takes jpg datasets, and your first map is free. Why not give it a try? Just a guess, but it sounds like the problem is either bad or no embedded geo-tags and not JPG vs TIFF. It could also be insufficient overlap?

Well, it was worth taking a look.

    Search and Rescue payload release.

I have the Stork system that I got from Ralph at SkyHigh. Basically it is like a rod and fork that clamp onto the landing gear of an Inspire and cross when the gear is down and hold the bag; you put the gear into manual mode so that it doesn't raise on takeoff. You hang the bag from the...
