Hello All,

I hope you don't mind me asking for some advice regarding the CAA insurance form as I'm struggling elsewhere.

I work for a survey company and recently completed my PfCO. Being a survey company with public liability insurance in place, we had the option to add UAV operations to our current policies or go with a standalone provider such as Moonrock.
We opted for the former and have hit a stumbling block regarding the form that our insurer needs to submit to the CAA. It is my understanding that both our insurer and Moonrock are both underwritten by Hiscox. Although give that the widespread use of UAV is relatively new, this is treading new ground for our insurer and as such there is some uncertainty about questions on the insurance form.
I have attached said form with questions onto this thread. Would anybody be able to shed any light on this? Or has anybody come up against a similar problem?

Any help would be greatfully received.

Best Regards,

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

The AVN Numbers will either be standard forms for policies written under a binding authority or line-slip or more likely Endorsement numbers (or exclusions) that will attach to and form part of a wider policy.
Underwriters are not the sharpest tools in the box (especially after a heavy lunch )and should be able to tell you exactly what the AVN references are but since both covers are underwritten by Hiscox I would advice you tell them to refer to their Aviation department who should have a grasp of the cover required (as well as a reference table for endorsements/exclusions). Somewhere within the aviation area will be the UAV underwriting team (or person) who will issue policies specifically in respect of these type of aircraft.
They should be able to advise you on the best course to take although personally I would always ere towards a specialist policy for the task in hand - ie a UAV specific cover.

Thanks for the welcome and for your swift reply! I will forward this on to our underwriters. It seems an obvious thing to do you would think!

Moonrock will provide the paper work if you ask them they are aware of what the CAA requires paperwork wise
