    Are Olympus Lenses Fully Functional?

There is a caveat to all this. I have the Oly 45 and it does NOT work on my X5S. I am told this is because the firmware in the lens is not the correct version. Alas, there is no way for me to update the firmware, so I may as well toss the lens in the trash.

Using the SanDisk 16GB U3 on both birds (X5S and X7) so I don't think that is my issue, especially for stills.

Any new owners of the x7 can share their thoughts so far

You've probably already seen what I have to say, but I'm considered the party pooper of the crowd since I don't shill for DJI. I wasted $4K on the X7/35, and yes, it was a complete and total waste of money. That's what you get for being an early adopter. Lesson learned. Today my X7 sits idly in...

If you want as fair a comparison as I can make, have a look at these raws: bnsf_3997_intermodal_20171122_ottawa_ks.dng bnsf_7173_intermodal_20171128_ottawa_ks.dng The shots aren't great, but the position and composition and settings are pretty close between the X5S and X7.

Glad I could help. Yes, I'm terribly disappointed (to the tune of $4K). And here's the salt DJI rubbed into this wound. Not only is the X7 of no use to me because it is way too soft, the whole system is no so unstable as to be totally useless for shooting stills of moving objects. The latest...

Nope. You're seeing the real deal. But here's what may have you puzzled. The X7 is only 24MP if you shoot 3:2. Now as best I and a friend can tell, there is a bug (anyone listening?) in 3:2 stills with shutter speeds 1/1000 and under, in that you get a nasty blown-out horizontal stripe across...

Wow, WTF? I used to fly a D800E and D810 with a Sigma 50/1.4 Art and the IQ was phenomenal; I really miss it. But the truth is, a cobbled-together box of miscellaneous parts is no match for a fully-integrated solution like the I2/X7. And honestly, even before DJI announced the X7, I kept...

    Left Side Blur/Focus Issue?

Just as a follow-up (my apologies for having abandoned this thread), I diagnosed my latest X5S blur issue to being a problem with my Olympus 25/1.8 lens, which was on a bird that crashed. The lens is messed-up in a way that I don't fully understand, but I did determine it was the lens and not...

    X7 Gimbal Balance Problems

I too was dismayed to find the 35 was way too back-heavy at first. It's also annoying that their fruity little hood won't fit after you put their cheapo filter on there. I hate hoods because all they are good for is acting like a windsock, so I got rid of that right away. I then had to add an...

    SAMPLE images and videos

Sorry, I got busy over the holiday weekend and didn't have time to shoot any more test shots, but I did do quite a bit of "production" shooting with the X7 and now feel a bit more confident of what I am saying. The X7 + 35/2.8 is still quite soft compared to the X5S + Oly 25/1.8, but that said...

I'll bite. Since I'm traveling, I don't have the set of test images I shot immediately upon receiving the camera yesterday, but I do have a couple of grab shots I took enroute to my destination yesterday afternoon. Kindly note that these do NOT represent what I consider to be 'good' (in any...

    Left Side Blur/Focus Issue?

So here are the results of my tests, after I briefly describe the procedure. Being in farm country, I flew above a frost-covered field of unharvested soybeans, which provided the ultimate in contrast and detail. I took off, climbed to an altitude in meters equal to the focal length in mm (i.e...

    Left Side Blur/Focus Issue?

Thanks Casey! I'm out to do some more shooting this morning and will test my other lenses (15 and 45). It is possible the lens (25) is bad because it was part of the crash and took a nasty impact, although shows no visible damage. Will report my findings here later. Cheers!

    Left Side Blur/Focus Issue?

So here's an odd update. I'd been pretty happy with the results I'd been getting with the 0.005" shim under the 25mm lens, but then due to my own carelessness and stupidity, I crashed that rig and put it out of commission for a good long while. So then I got a new I2 + X5S and began the process...

    Left Side Blur/Focus Issue?

Just as a follow-up for those who read Casey's posts, I too (like nearly everyone) have bad left-side blur, so I tried what he suggested. Here are my findings thus far. I was NOT able to get the screws out of the bayonet. It seems they are lock-tighted in there and I didn't want to strip the...
