    USA Recertification Test

Thanks for sharing and good recall! What I found particularly baffling the first time I took the test was not being allowed to review the questions I got wrong (note: I passed, just not 100%). I actually wanted to go back so I could learn from my mistakes. Isn't that what the FAA should be...

    USA Recertification Test

There is at least one question that's been modified: "You are operating a 1,280 g (2.8 lb) quadcopter for your own enjoyment. What FAA regulation is this sUAS operation subject to? (A) 14 CFR Part 107. (B) 14 CFR Part 48. (C) This operation is not subject to FAA regulations. The answer, B, was...

USA Expediting approval of an FAA airspace authorization request?

As others have already pointed out you're SOL. Just chiming in because I was in a very similar situation earlier this year. Had a client wanting to film in Quincy which appears to be roughly the same distance from BOS as Nahant. I'm 107 and it was two weeks before the shoot so all I could do was...

    USA Airspace question

Thanks everyone for your feedback. My timeline might be off but I thought the FAA UAS maps came about after 107 and since they are from the FAA themselves I figured that's the latest reference I needed to rely upon but yeah, confirming against a sectional is wise and that's what I did as I...

    USA Airspace question

Class E? Where are you seeing that? The FAA UAS map shows me within a perimeter surrounding KBOS and Airmap only specifies warnings for KBOS Class B airspace. I'm looking at a sectional chart but I still don't see Class E. But I don't understand why I'm getting warnings for Class B requiring...

    USA Airspace question

I'm going to jump on this bandwagon and ask my own confusing airspace question. I'm being asked to fly in Quincy, MA (the little black dot in one of the '300' boxes). According to the FAA's UAS Data Map, flight is restricted to 300 feet which suggests authorization is required (as does the...

Flying with the X5S in low light

I did a low light test recently. ProRes was pretty noisy but CinemaDNG looked great so from my experience low light = shooting in RAW.

    Client Specs re: Dropped Frames

As The Editor pointed out it's a reference to how timecode is generated. The choices are dropframe (DF) or non-dropframe (NDF) but dropframe is really an antiquated analog way of generating timecode for broadcast and I rarely come across it anymore. I don't think it's gone entirely but certainly...

    INSPIRE 2 X5S ND32 / 64 Filters

I really like variable ND filters for drones. The quality tends to be not as good as individual filters but depending what you're shooting chances are the quality difference will be unnoticeable. They're really convenient to use, cover a wide range from pretty much 0 ND to way more than you'll...

    UK Portfolio query

I don't fault anyone for doing freebies in the beginning because we all have to start somewhere but keep in mind regardless of your experience you have an investment in equipment, you have skill as a pilot (even if it's novice you've spent time learning to fly), and you're taking on some degree...

USA So. Couldn't use my Part WTF!?07 license the other day...

Can you clarify? Because I also thought authorizations were for specific 'one time' dates and waivers were longer term blanket allowances. And when applying for either, do you have to specify what you want to do or simply request the area you want to fly in? The point I'm specifically interested...

USA So. Couldn't use my Part WTF!?07 license the other day...

I'm just gonna chime in and give Pescatoral a +1 for his original post. If I understand his intention correctly, he's simply pointing out the absurdity of greater leniency given to hobbyists than licensed drone pilots with respect to flying in controlled airspace. To this I agree 100%. The rules...

USA So. Couldn't use my Part WTF!?07 license the other day...

Been there, done that. I've turned down multiple jobs for safety or legal issues knowing full well someone else will do it despite these issues. Sucks but I sleep better at night. Kind of.

USA Part 107 Flights in Controlled Airspace

My understanding, and please correct me if I'm wrong, is that if you're in Class G or Class E airspace that is outside the surface area of Class E that at a minimum you simply need to practice "see and avoid" and give right of way to manned aircraft.

USA Part 107 Flights in Controlled Airspace

I've read through this entire thread and like many of us, remain confused. This is my understanding of the various airspace restrictions - would love confirmation or correction... Class B - always towered - flight restricted within 5NM of center (i.e. flying at a height of 50 feet AGL 4.99NM...
