X5S compatible lens and balancing thread

Joe, I am not gimbal design engineer but to answer your first question, having a balanced gimbal is always better as it is a control system with stabilization feedback loops. Point being you can introduce micro vibrations due to the feedback loops over compensating. These can show up in your...

Inspire 2 compatible with Olympus 14-42mm?

That is unfortunate. The release notes for FW V.01.0.0110 states "Added camera lens distortion correction in H.264/H.265 formats". They are not clear on what lenses they did that for. I am shooting with prime lenses so maybe others who are using this lens can comment.

Inspire 2 compatible with Olympus 14-42mm?

If you are shooting in Prores, my understanding is there will be no lens distortion correction and you will have to correct it in post. If you have not already, load the latest FW and try shooting in h264.

Can I zoom (with the right lens) with the X5S?

If you are still having issues take 1/ 4 inch strip of duct tape with a length that can wrap around the circumference of the balance ring with about 1 inch of excess. Acts like an oil filter wrench as it keeps the balance ring from being malformed. Works great for stuck ND filters as well as...

Inspire 2 compatible with Olympus 14-42mm?

@Shayd, Although not a direct comparison, the following video shot by 2nd2non "Waap" on the Panasonic should help you. I think the Panasonic would be a good lens for building inspection but probably not something I would use for videography but the videos should help you in that decision. I am...

@Waap, Thanks for the response! Confirms the 25mm choice for my application. Cheers

X5S compatible lens and balancing thread

WAAP, On thing I forgot to ask. Were you recording this in ProRes? I see pincushion distortion in your 3rd video when you look at the horizon. The reason why I ask is DJI is supposedly going to add in camera lens distortion correction using lens profiles in the future for ProRes (read it on...

X5S compatible lens and balancing thread

Thanks for posting the videos. I was struggling on what my next lens would be (currently have the stock 15mm and Oly 45mm). I thought it would be nice to have a zoom lens for scouting, but a lot of time I capture my best shots on scouting missions (wildlife ..). I think the 25mm will hit the...

    Olympus 45mm Lens Edge Distortion

Makes sense what you are suggesting. I don't know of any way to turn the barrel distortion correction off. I guess the only saving grace is the barrel distortion should be less with the 45mm if you are recording in ProRes.

    Olympus 45mm Lens Edge Distortion

I am using the Sensei pro 37mm-46mm step-up ring attached to a Hoya 37mm ND filter (just using the step-up ring for counter weight). This combo balances the pitch fine for me. I would imagine the cap is for the very slight roll to one side. I will probably take this out with a weight (maybe will...

X5S compatible lens and balancing thread

Just a slight variant to what you are using for the 45mm. I am using the Sensei pro 37mm-46mm step-up ring attached to a Hoya 37mm ND filter (just using the step-up ring for counter weight). This combo balances fine for me as far as pitch. I do see a very slight roll to one side that I will...

    Olympus 45mm Lens Edge Distortion

Thanks for the reply! I was worried about having to send the camera or the lens back. Yes I am using the micro SD card with the H264 codec. I do not have a cineSSD yet (back order). I have not tried the H265 codec (workflow not the best with Final Cut Pro X). Maybe I will try the H265 codec and...

    Olympus 45mm Lens Edge Distortion

I finally got around to putting on the Olympus 45mm lens and noticed two thin bands of distortion on the left and right side. It was easy to crop out it out in post but was wondering if others are having the same issue. I did calibrate the lens for infinity focus but maybe I should do it again...

    Anyone Using D-log?

I was hoping with the higher 100Mb rate it would be more useable. On the Phantom 4 pro forum some of the videographers were getting good results for shots that had good lighting conditions (not overexposed) and were used on high contrast subject matter. I guess I see a Prores license and a SSD...

    Anyone Using D-log?

Henry, Appreciate the response. I think I am going to continue to use D-log when the conditions are right over none or Cine-D..
