UK Dartmoor National Park - Overflight

I believe I was OK. But whether the local bylaws preventing the use of drones extend to the whole area covered by the national park including freeholder land, I don't know. I shall keep you informed of the results I obtain.

UK Dartmoor National Park - Overflight

Actually, I flew this assignment back in mid June without incident. But I have been asked by a group to take more aerials of various parts of the moors which I can really only do with DNPA cooperation. I shall need to talk to them.

UK Dartmoor National Park - Overflight

Dartmoor National Park - Advice Please I would be very grateful for any input that members of this group can give. Recently, I undertook a still and video photo assignment for a Hotel and a farmer who is a part owner in the Hotel, located in the National Park with full permission for take-off...

    UK Night Flying OPS Manual

Renewing my PfAW (PfCO) and wondered if those who use additional lighting (eg Lume Cubes) have written the latter into the OPS Manual night flying. Especially interested in whether people have changed the MTOW to incorporate weight of the lights or have left the manufacturers MTOW unchanged in...

    Optimum X5 shutter speeds?

I have read a number of comments regarding the sensor in the P3P and X3 that suggest that NOT following the perceived wisdom of doubling the frame rate eg 1/50th for 24 fps rather selecting a speed in the range 1/100th to 1/200th significantly reduces unwanted artefacts such as moire etc. I am...

    UK PFAW - NQE Recommendations?

Also went to RUSTA in Bristol. They were excellent and also met up with Sion.

    UK Flight Over Railway Line

I entirely agree! I think the time has come to secure some sort of special privilege as qualified pilots over hobbyists. If the growing number of institutions are allowed to wrest control of airspace from the CAA, then we shall find ourselves increasingly restricted. After all, under the ANO and...

    UK Flight Over Railway Line

This is a very interesting point. There are an increasing number of entities that ban overflight by UAVs without their specific approval including The National Trust and English Heritage. The concept of being able to legally access airspace anywhere that is not out of bounds by Local or Central...

    UK Flight Over Railway Line

Hi Andrew, thanks for your contribution. In fact, I can achieve pretty much what the client has specified without flying over the line, although this is a shame. The job is most certainly not worth the hassle of submitting to a NR SSOW! Cheers, Michael

Thank you Nick. Very sound suggestions, which I shall implement. :) Michael

    UK Flight Over Railway Line

As I said earlier in the post, there is plenty of time and space to ensure no trains will be in the vicinity. Risk assessed to be very very low = 1 on RA form. Especially with extra measures taken.

    UK Flight Over Railway Line

Thanks Mark. The railway is located in rural Wiltshire which is still waiting for electricity! :) so no overhead power lines or central rail.

    UK Flight Over Railway Line

This may be something I should already know but am I able, within the regulations of the ANO, to fly at a safe height (say 50m) over a railway line without seeking permission from Railtrack? The railway is very visible in each direction and therefore it will be easy to spot oncoming trains to...

UK New Occurrence Reporting System - Replaces SRG1601/2/3

What I actually don't understand is the logic of the CAA being the party that issues the Permissions. After all, they outsource to NQE's all training and pilot competence to ensure applicants meet the standards and requirement of CAP 722. Would it also not be logical if the NQE's could issue the...

UK New Occurrence Reporting System - Replaces SRG1601/2/3

Well my Ops manual went through without touching the sides with the `'`old`` MORS. I guess they have been diverted by their constant need to sharpen pencils as opposed to a focus on attention to detail.
