19th of Jan is the version my CASA assessor sent me this week so I guess it's the current one

Fair enough, but I don't think we had the same guy by the sound of it :) Good luck with your business venture!

Yes the new manuals would have benefited me too if they had come out a couple of months earlier. Not too much hassle to drag and drop my stuff into the new one but I guess it's good to have manuals standardised for everyone. Glad you got a refund too! Not sure who you had or if you got on well...

Congrats mate, well done! Interesting about the new 30m rule, didn't know that was coming.

Hi Southerndoug. Have they sent you a copy of the flight assessment yet with all the exercises in? They should email you them so you can get out and practice them. I did my assessment last December. Just remember to fly slow and consistent, be prepared to fly the exercises again in ATTI and he...

Hi Tony Thanks that'd be great as I haven't got it sorted yet due to the cost. I did try Simon and QBE but they were the same price but only included public liability and hull cover for my Inspire, not the extra equipment and my Phantom. Would be interested to learn more. Cheers, John

Not sure how much but I don't think manual amendments cost a great deal. I guess we'll find out when they contact us

Hey folks, found out a bit of interesting news this week. I applied to CASA for night time flying exemption and was told they are considering issuing a general exemption to all UOC holders for night flying, saving us $960! Here's a quote from the email: "CASA is currently considering a general...

Sorry it was actually $2135, which is even better! You can't get insurance with ABS until you have your UCC and your UOC, and I don't believe there is a requirement to have insurance once you're up and running, but obviously it'd be advisable :)

I just got quoted $2300 to insure my Inspire, Phantom, Osmo and all my gear. That's annually from ABS in Sydney Home - Austbrokers - Aviation Insurance | Aircraft Insurance | Pilot Insurance | Helicopter Insurance

I have an iCom A15 but they won't get you to use an actual radio on the test. They'll just ask you to simulate a radio call in a specific scenario.

With the refund my UOC cost about 3K in the end, with an Inspire and Phantom doing aerial photography, spotting and surveying

Hi folks, just popped back in to let you know that my UOC test took 5 1/2 hours, 90 minutes of that was the flight test. Carl the CASA guy was a real help and after I'd made adjustments to my manuals I got the UOC certificate emailed to me within a few days of the test. Also got a nice refund...
