The lens balancing is one of those serendipitous moments that rarely happens. LOL

Ugh, rebooted everything, removed and reseated lens, double UGH, it works fine. Wonder how long I have to live (am 79) before I actually believe re-booting and starting afresh fixes most problems. LOL

Dug into my grab bag of stuff I don't use and found a Lumix 14-42, 3.5-5.6. Says acceptable lens for X5R. I think I originally purchased it as a means to determine what primes I wanted. Get error, 'CAMERA NOT CONNECTED' but am able to focus in MF. Would I be incorrect in assuming that this lens...

At the risk of being obvious and hopefully not insulting, I might ask your motive for upgrading the X3. I have the X5R on I1V2, X5S on I2, and Z3 on I1. If you are seriously into photography or videography, well, seems investing in the X5R an 'ok' move, but consider the life of the platform...

There is no continuous focus on you camera as there is on quality DSLR’s. Obviously you can compute your DOF and play the trade-off game or as you are doing refocus and handle the blips in video editing. Or, keep you camera Inside the DOF.

You r probably correct on all points.

Not to forget a variable ND filter so that you can at least attempt to home in on other settings.
