    X5R in 2020 [upgrading from X3]

If you don't mind the post processing workflow that comes along with using the X5R than the footage is really high quality and rivals that from the I2/X5S. Definitely a huge step up from the X3 or X5 however you need to be realistic about price with the entire platform when it comes to lenses...

    autofocus x5

Focus aid/assist is when the image zooms in to help you see if the image is in focus, this only works when not recording. The thin colored lines around an object letting you know something is in focus is called "focus peaking" and is on at all times if switched on. For the external microphone...

X5 versus P4P for inspection work

There's also the Z3 option on the inspire, I've never gotten one since I feel like they are expensive for what they are but I believe you would get better flight time since it's significantly smaller than the X5. Gives you a 22-77mm equivalent focal length that zooms smoothly at 12mp for about...

X5 versus P4P for inspection work

I use the Olympus version (Olympus M.Zuiko 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 EZ ) it's a pancake lens and it is not nearly as sharp as the Oly prime lenses(12,25,45) but is really convenient with being able to zoom in on the fly and maintain a true 16mp image. One thing to note is that it zooms in steps and...

X5 versus P4P for inspection work

You know I was thinking more commercial roof and general inspection where I've needed the higher resolution and also the ability to use the XT for some thermal roof inspections. When I was doing residential roof inspections for an insurance company I started with a P3P and then moved to a mavic...

X5 versus P4P for inspection work

I own both platforms and the 45mm lens. The difference is night and day...the focal lengths are actually farther apart than you are saying...when DJI talks focal length they are giving the 35mm full frame equivalent. The P4P is a 24mm equivalent while the 45mm on an X5 is a 90mm equivalent so...

Are States Cracking Down on Drone Surveying Services without a Land Surveyor's License?

When I started supplementing my land surveying business with aerial data I reached out to my states board of engineering/surveying to see what I needed a stamp/signature on and they're answer was pretty simple...if you are showing measurements of any kind on your deliverables(property lines even...

    Balancing help: Olympus 14-42

The lens ok for video, honestly its not the sharpest lens and I prefer any prime lens over it as far as picture quality goes but it does have its place. The zoom works in video and photo modes however it does not zoom smoothly (zooms in steps) so you can't achieve any cinematic zoom shots with...

Mapping with X5, zoom lens, and bird? O MY!

Oh right, there IS the pinch zoom while shooting 1080 video but its not available in photo mode...sorry, since this is a mapping thread I didn't think about video as it probably wouldn't be useful for what the OP is trying to accomplish. To get back on track... @Zak I forgot that GSPro does...

    Balancing help: Olympus 14-42

I only have experience with the i1 pro X5 but with that you do indeed need to power on the bird with lens attached to get the lens out of "pancake" mode at which time the barrel will extend and you should be pretty close to balanced with that set up. I use a similar set up with the oly 14-42mm...

Mapping with X5, zoom lens, and bird? O MY!

Right on the mark about the z3, but digital zoom on the x5? Not sure how you came up with that...There's no digital zoom on my x5 with any of my prime lenses and the zoom with my olympus 14-42mm and Panasonic 45-150mm is completely optical.

Mapping with X5, zoom lens, and bird? O MY!

I have never tried mapping with my 14-42 but it should work just fine as long as you get the overlap plsnned correctly. I would say UGCS would be your best bet at getting a good flight plan with propper overlap since you can customize your focal length. Since 70 side and 80 forward overlap...

Anyone used PPK to establish GCP coordinates?

Ok so this is diving into the surveying realm which might be why no one has any insight as even some surveyors dont really get post processing... so first a brief, simplified run down on post processing (PPK)...you use your GPS receiver to log a static observation file (which is just a record of...

DJI X5 Lens Test Olympus 14-42mm

I couldn't find a good combination with the balance ring so my solution was to get a 37mm to 46mm step up ring(Sensei 37mm Lens to 46mm Filter Step-Up Ring https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AE1LDRY?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf) and use that in combination with my B+W nd filters and 46mm balance ring for my 15mm...

    Camera top facing forward

If you dont have this checked your gimbal can rotate which will make the images not square to the direction you are flying which will negatively effect your overlap. I check this box and also lock the gimbal to FPV in djigo before launching UGCS.
