On newer firmware versions I have tested 2.7k and don't like it at all. It's too mushy now for use. I only ever shoot 4K as it looks the best and downsamples well to 1080p. I still am liking D-cinelike over D-log, but I keep the sharpness/contrast etc. settings all at 0.

I have found the gimbal to balance well with a plastic step-up ring and a Hoya 46mm filter.

PC or Mac doesn't matter - just know that ProRes is not natively supported on Windows, so the only way you'll be able to view your footage in the browser will be with the H264 files (if you shoot in ProRes which is the main advantage of the X5S). You can edit ProRes fine on Premiere or whatever...
