Photo quality X3 cam vs X5?

My wife probably knows you I suspect then if you friends with Garrett. What is your IMDB link?

Photo quality X3 cam vs X5?

She has had Panavision 65 on it as well as IMAX. It's a very adaptable tool. Ursa is much smaller than those. Hunger Games used IMAX on Steadicam as well.

Photo quality X3 cam vs X5?

My wife started working with Garret Brown around 1990 doing Steadicam and just retired last year. She will be happy to tell you about the number of commercials and music videos she she shot using an URSA. I asked her about it and she said "it's a tool. Use it for what it's intended for...

Photo quality X3 cam vs X5?

I have to say that every jpg I see off of the X5 looks like compressed garbage. Filled with mushy compression artifacts and complete lack of detail. Maybe the DNGs look good?

Photo quality X3 cam vs X5?

Prores only supports 10 bit (4:2:2), not 12. I have yet to meet a man that can see the difference between 10 and 12 bit depth video. Women, yes, men - not so much... Not to dismiss 12 bit, it's absolutely fabulous in post. The amount you can push it is shocking. But 10 bit would nice. For...

    X5R Price...

It is common for raw image data to be compressed with a lossless compression similar to what you might see with say, a .zip file. All of Blackmagic Design's cameras that sport raw do this.

X5 only 60mbps is this a big issue?

I never judge camera capability based on web videos like that. We have no way to know what processing the original raw data was subjected to prior to being massively compressed for Youtube streaming. If you are unaccustomed to a raw workflow, your results will reflect that fact. The only way...

X5 only 60mbps is this a big issue?

I fear I will have to send the wife in as my proxy as I cannot dance my way out of a wet paper bag :)

X5 only 60mbps is this a big issue?

Well, understand that it's not an insult or anything. I will preface this by saying that most movies today and commercials and a bit of TV all use GoPro cameras. So we see this highly compressed 8 bit colorspace footage and after they correct barrel distortion ( if they bother), no one...

X5 only 60mbps is this a big issue?

Nick is clearly not a colorist :)

X5 only 60mbps is this a big issue?

The upgraded camera at the same crippled 60mbps data rate is a deal killer. The raw solution is not fiscally viable.

Storage requirements for the X5R shooting 4k raw

My wife shoots about 70% of her work in raw. After the job is done, she may extract some shots for personal use and if she does she will archive that. But, 90 days following content delivery she nukes all the raw footage as well as pretty much everything else associated to the project except a...

Storage requirements for the X5R shooting 4k raw

My wife's Ursa that shoots 4K raw generates an 8.5MB file per frame.
